ABOUT CHERYL

Me (bottom right), my journalism teacher, and classmates outside of my high school.

I’m Cheryl Abram, a Louisiana native with a fiery passion for challenging conventional wisdom and redefining the world around me.

My journey has been unique, yet ordinary—I’m a working mother of four, an Army veteran, a social worker, certified hypnotist, learning designer, evaluation professional, non-technical cybersecurity architect, and an author.

From Houma, Louisiana, to Washington, D.C., I’ve navigated many twists and challenges, each one shaping my unique perspective on life, learning, and work.

However, it wasn’t until I was in my late 30s that I realized I had been living according to a script written by someone else. I hadn’t made my own decisions or had an original thought.

I’ve since come to understand that life is too vast and my potential too limitless to follow someone else’s script. Belief and fear don’t have to guide everything I do. I’m proud to have authored Firing God. , a book about my inner battle to question every idea, story and belief system I was clinging to—whether it was about being a religious fan, politically right, a good mother, loyal wife, obedient daughter, high-performing employee, sole provider, or natural nurturer.

God was, and still is, every story, idea, and belief system that I’m too afraid to question or have accepted as natural or inevitable. These beliefs about who and what I was supposed to be placed me in fixed roles, shaping not only how I saw and valued myself but how others saw me.

This is not a book about religion or swapping one belief for another; it’s the story of my ongoing wake-up call to recognize my ability to build a self-imposed prison. But within that prison, I’ve also created a key—a key that ONLY I have access to.

“Cheryl’s first book is the only one she’ll ever need to write.” —Robert Rabbin

Firing God is my past and present journey from feeling weighed down by the need to be “right” to living fully, bravely, and consciously on my own terms.

Now, I’ve dedicated my life to telling the truth, sharing my ideas and talents, and asking questions where others may assume the answers are clear. I acknowledge fear, push through it, and sometimes choose to live authentically while afraid.

My 2016 presentation at the Science and Nonduality Conference.

In addition to my work as an author, I founded Ypifany (pronounced ‘epiphany’), where I practice getting out of my own way so businesses, nonprofits, and individuals can find relief from frustration, exhaustion, obligation, ambivalence, confusion, incompetence, unworthiness, and strain as they navigate the digital world to accomplish their missions and goals.

So, how does getting out of my own way benefit those who collaborate with me in reaching their goals?

Cheryl Abram has been an exceptional cybersecurity consultant, providing invaluable guidance and support to my cybersecurity firm. Her insights and ideas have significantly strengthened my service offerings and positioned my business more competitivelywithin the cybersecurity field.

I make an awesome pot of gumbo!

Getting out of my own way isn’t about stepping aside; it’s actually about fully, authentically, and genuinely engaging, which makes room for transformation. It’s co-designing options and a path of guidance and support that my clients can access to find their own freedom, control, and success. By clearing my path, I leave room for others’ potential to take root, grow, and flourish.

For me, acknowledging our role as the “decision-maker” is a path to freedom—the freedom to live, learn, and conduct business confidently, knowing we control our beliefs, connections, assets, resources, and rights.

I also believe that our businesses and careers are more than just professional entities—they are living extensions of who we are. Just as we are alive, so too are the businesses and careers we nurture. They go through stages of life—growth, challenges, and transformations—just like we do.

When we treat our businesses and careers as living beings, we give them the care and attention they need to thrive. A business, like a person, needs direction, nurturing, and adaptability, and by giving it those person-like attributes, we can better understand its needs and growth potential.

A business's life cycle mirrors that of a human, evolving through phases of development, and I believe we should treat it with the same level of care and respect we give to personal relationships.

This is why I encourage others to love their careers and businesses as they would love a person, because they are, in many ways, a reflection of ourselves.

I’m also excited to share that my next book—Open Ports & Plain Text: Re-imagining Cybersecurity Through Vulnerability—Our Most Secure Controlwill soon be published.

It builds on my desire to share my ideas and the perspective that the most ordinary and overlooked can be our most valuable and useful…if we are willing to refresh our perspectives. This book will make cybersecurity accessible to individuals and businesses alike, reminding readers that for something to be extraordinary, it must first be “ordinary”.

I’ve stopped chasing after the idea of a better tommorrow and I’m now re-inventing the present.

Beyond my professional work, I’m deeply committed to giving back. As a social worker, I volunteer with nonprofits, helping talented individuals from underserved communities bring value and passion into STEM fields.

I believe the next generation of professionals should reflect the diversity, creativity, and resilience of those most impacted by the digital landscape.

My article, “Unlearning Evaluation”, in Training and Development (T&D) Magazine where I use a Cybersecurity Leadership Program to demonstrate the benefits of my original evaluation design model in ensuring the most effective program results.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of sharing my ideas on national and international platforms. From speaking engagements on shows like Buddha at the Gas Pump and Wholeness Speaks to contributing to wellness and mental health publications such as PsychCentral, Cosozo, and One The Magazine, I’ve focused on sharing ideas to inspire original thought and nudge the strongest muscle we have…our ability to choose.

I’ve shared my ideas globally on popular and obscure shows in the U.S., Australia, England, Hungary, and Canada.

I’ve also hosted my own radio show, Life Without a Witness (which is also the name of my YouTube Channel), where I shared what it means to live authentically as a woman, mother, and professional, candidly discussing the challenges of telling the truth about how I really feel in all the roles I occupy. That was lots of fun, and I’m working on a Podcast so I can engage in that way again.

Most recently, I’ve joined the CRC Press Reviewers’ Group for Cybersecurity, where I will review manuscripts and content on various aspects of cybersecurity.

Whether I’m discussing spiritual freedom, personal growth, learning, decision-making or cybersecurity strategies, my goal is always to think bigger, live bolder, challenge everything I know to be “true”, and flourish into my possibilities.

Thank you for stopping by. Whether you’re here to learn more about my learning and development or cybersecurity work, explore my writing, or just connect, I’m thrilled that you’re here.

There’s much more to tell and share, so if you’re interested, feel free to engage in a little passive OSINT and Google me!

Ciao for Niao,
